However, fire doors must be tested\nand inspected on an annual basis to comply with NFPA standards and to help\nensure that the door will perform as it was designed in the event of a fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NFPA 80<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NFPA 80 is the Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening\nProtectives. NFPA 80 requires that rolling fire doors are inspected no less\nthan annually and that a drop test is performed every year. These inspections\nmust be performed by a trained and certified professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Visual Inspection of Fire Door<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before your fire door can be tested, it must first pass a\nvisual inspection. During the inspection, some things technicians will check\nfor include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>No open holes in the surface of the door<\/li><li>Door clearance<\/li><li>Smoke detectors<\/li><li>Guides, curtain slats, end locks, bottom bar,\nhood assembly, and operating mechanisms are in proper working condition<\/li><li>Proper installation of door components<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fire Door Drop Test<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the visual inspection of the door is completed, a drop\ntest must be performed. During a drop test, the automatic closure system on the\ndoor is tested. The drop test is performed according to the manufacturer\u2019s\ninstructions. Starting from open, the door is dropped, and the average closing\nspeed must be between 6\u201d and 24\u201d per second. The door must fully close with the\nbottom bar resting on the sill. After the first test, the door must be reset, tested\na second time, and reset again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the testing and inspection is complete, you should\nreceive a written fire door inspection and drop test report for your records\nalong with recommendations for needed repairs and replacement.
